Newsflash

A recent article in the Boston Globe referenced, quite appropriately, the Borges story "Funes the Memorious" as envisioning human existence with perfect memory, and how little value raw information has.  The article is a good one.  I take issue with one point the author, Jessica Winter, raises, though:  I think JLB could have imagined our current capacity to retain information.  Here is a link to the September 23, 2007 article:

The New York Times has a nice article describing the view from the window of the library of Jorge Luis Borges.  http://www.nytimes.com/interactive/2011/01/02/opinion/20110102_Windows.html .

Borges Review

The journal Nature recently had a review of Funes the Memorious written by Rodrigo Quian Quiroga, a professor at the University of Leicester.  Quite an accomplishment, a review 65 years after publishing.  It is entitled, "In Retrospect: Funes the Memorious."  It gives some history on JLB and relates a visit to JLB's private library and discussions with Maria Kodama.  It also relates science behind the story, which was ahead of its time.  Here is a link to the article:
